Der Mann, der seinen Mörder sucht
director: Robert Siodmak
year: 1930
country: Germany
alternative titles: Der Himmelskandidat, Jim, der Mann mit der Narbe
After brooding over it for some time, Hans Herfort decides to end his life. Why should he go on living, if he is only constantly running from creditors? If he weren’t so cowardly, he would have long since pulled the trigger on his pistol. As he’s just about to give up on another attempt, suddenly the robber Otto Kuttlapp climbs over the balcony into Hans’ apartment. The two men begin talking, and Hans gets the idea to hire Kuttlapp as his murderer. Kuttlapp is supposed to complete the task by noon the next day, after which he will receive 15,000 Marks from Hans’ life insurance. When, how, and where the murder is to take place is left up to him.
As Hans goes to his local bar for a final drink, he meets the attractive Kitty. After freeing her from the clutches of the shady bar owner, Hans falls in love with her and gains a new energy for life. However, now it is time to find Kuttlapp, for he is already hard at work making plans to complete his job...
