The beautiful Anna receives a brand new 10 Mark note in her first wage packet. She gives it to her poor mother, who places it in her bible. Anna’s brother Robert, never up to any good, steals the money and uses it to buy a knife. The note passes from hand to hand. Robert becomes a murderer. Anna and the mother despair. The auction of their furniture looms. Finally Anna escapes a man who wants to exploit her vulnerability, and instead flees to a man who genuinely loves her. He has just pawned his bike to try to save some of Anna’s furniture at the auction. The note which he received was Anna’s original 10 Mark note.
