From Production file:
'New Teacher', Crown Film Unit's production, written and directed by Rodney Ackland the well-known playwright, is designed as a film for recruiting teachers. It tess the story of a young girl in the ATS, engaged to a teacher, who becomes embued with his enthusiasm and on demobilisation, enters the profession herself. Her first attempt to take a class, as a student, is a dismal failure - but urged on by her fiance she sticks at it until she has learnt her job and finds the thrill of doing a job and knowing that she is doing it well..
The part of the girls is played by Yvonne Rone [sic] [Yvonne Dorie on cast list -- neither name found on BFI dbase but one reference exists to a Dori Rone] whose first film this is, while her fiance is played by Peter Cushing, who has appeared in a number of films in Hollywood.
Many of the scenes in 'New Teacher' were shot at two very modern schools in the North of England. These are Scalby Senior School near Scarborough, and a school at Northallerton, both in Yorkshire. Both these are fine modern buildings and have the very latest equipment. Other scenes were taken at Homerton Training College, Cambridge.

Commentary
There is a production file from the Central Office of Information at the National Archive: INF 6/986 which contains a shooting script and associated documents, but no stills. Six stills survive in Homerton College, Cambridge, archive, in two of which the young Peter Cushing is visible.
There is an account of the making of the film in Rodney Ackland and Elspeth Grant (1954) 'The Celluloid Mistress or The Custard Pie of Dr Caligari' (pp.154-159). He reports that having seen the film, the Ministry of Education banned it, and the only time it was ever projected in front of an audience was when Paul Rotha organized a show of Government-sponsored films commissioned by various ministries and then banned.
Peter Cushing in his memoirs refers to having featured in two government information films on his return from Hollywood, but says nothing in detail about this one.
We would be very keen to find a copy, but have so far failed in our efforts. Any help would be much appreciated.
