Zwei Herzen und ein Schlag
director: Wilhelm Thiele
years: 1931/ 1932
country: Germany
Victor Müller works as a headwaiter in a small hotel on the Riviera. His wife Jenny lives in Paris, where she hopes her admirer, the Duke of Auribeau, will help make a career for her in a high-class cabaret. One day she shows up on the Riviera. Victor does not believe in her talent, however, and a fight ensues. Jenny quickly submits her divorce but Victor refuses to consent. On the advice of her lawyer, Jenny tries to provide grounds for the divorce by provoking Victor into slapping her. He maintains his cool, and swallows his anger, however. Furious, Jenny goes with her admirer to Paris, where she plans her first big appearance. Victor follows the couple, but when he learns that Auribeau wants to get engaged to Jenny, he leaves. Jenny still loves Victor, however, and knows nothing of the Duke’s plans. She is highly saddened by Victor’s departure. On top of this, her premiere seems destined to wind up a disaster. Victor, having returned at the last second, is able to prevent the worst, and the two find their way back together in the end.
