Prussia, 1812: Prussia is forced by a treaty to support the French troops in their advance towards Moscow. General Yorck wants to be released from service, but is made commander of the Prussian corps and sent to aid Napoleon. Reluctantly, he complies. When he hears that the French army has been beaten and is in retreat, he sees his chance to free Prussia from Napoleon. He resists the order of the French Marshall Macdonald to go into battle, and instead accepts the invitation of Russian Field Marshal Diebitsch to go to Poscheruner Mill, where he signs the Convention of Taurogen. King Friedrich Wilhelm III finally recognizes Prussia's growing dependency on France, and tears up the treaty, admitting Yorck is right. Yorck arrives in Berlin and is celebrated as a hero by the people there.
