Commentary
This material is from at least two different films, one appears to be European, but frames
2-9 are from "Sparrows" (Pickford-United Artists, 1926)
Bob Birchard, 27.07.2010
The title "Die Schmuggler und Wilderer vom Geierpasse" (The Smugglers and Poachers from Vulture Pass) is the one given on the print. However, there is no mention of this title in any relevant literature.

The liquor bottle the baby is being fed from is a Belle of Anderson Sour Mash Whiskey bottle. This was a brand marketed by Simon J. Greenbaum & Co., a distiller based in Louisville, Ky. that went bankrupt in 1915. Up to that time, the Belle of Anderson brand had a strong presence in California as it was handled by a local distributor. This suggests the film was made in America, likely on the West Coast and probably before the 1920 date of the filmstock, possibly 1914-18.
David Lewis, 10.02.2010
The images referred to by David Lewis and Melissa Bodnar, and correctly identified by Bob Birchard as corresponding to the 1926 Mary Pickford vehicle "Sparrows", have been moved to a separate entry, which can be viewed here.
A DVD edition of the film was released in the US by Milestone Film & Video in 1999 (see the entry on Milestone's website here) but has since gone out of print.
The Library of Congress and Colorlab restored the film in 2006. This restored version was screened on the opening day of the the 27th Pordenone Silent Festival in October 2008 (see the festival's online catalogue currently available here).

I'm sure someone has already noted that the young woman with braids appears to be Mary Pickford.
